Viral Video Shows Woman Flawlessly Calling Out Drivers Who Block Handicapped Spots
A woman named Kathryn Granger took to TikTok after she was unable to get out of her car because a truck illegally parked in an area designated for handicapped people.
Kathryn, who is handicapped herself, was frustrated and appalled at the disrespect shown by the truck owner, so she decided to take matters into her own hands. She documented her efforts on her @kathryngranger account in a video that now has more than 7.2 million views.
The Truck Blocked Kathryn’s Handicapped Access to the Bar
In her popular video, Kathryn recounted how she arrived at a crowded bar with her mom where few handicapped parking spots were available, and someone parked their truck in the striped area next to the handicapped space.
Kathryn suffered from a spinal cord injury that resulted in her needing a wheelchair for mobility, and the only wheelchair-accessible entrance to the bar was completely obstructed by the truck’s ignorant placement.
Kathryn’s Mom Was Prepared for the Situation
Kathryn’s mom, who is described as a “handicap enforcement officer,” whipped out a handicap parking warning sticker, and stuck it to the truck’s window. The authoritative sticker said, “It is illegal for anyone, with or without a handicap designation, to block access areas or ramps. The van access area is the striped area next to a handicap parking space.”
The owner of the truck eventually came out, ripped up the warning sticker and drove off.
More Trouble, More Tickets
Though the truck left the handicapped access area, the trouble was not over for Kathryn and her mom. A second truck pulled into the crosshatch area meant for handicapped patrons, once again preventing Kathryn from being able to access the curb ramp.
Without missing a beat, Kathryn’s mom took another warning sticker out and promptly placed it on the truck’s window.
Kathryn and Her Mom Got Support on TikTok
Kathryn’s comment section was flooded with praise and positivity over how she and her mom handled the stressful situation. “This is heartbreaking. People are so disrespectful. You are amazing for raising awareness,” one person commented.
Another commenter said, “This makes me happy cause those stickers are a pain to remove! Way to go mom and you!” In a follow-up video, Kathryn told viewers how to get the coveted handicap parking warning stickers, in order to prevent other ignorant drivers from making the same mistake.
