Texas Woman Holds the Door for an Elderly Woman and Changes Both of Their Lives Forever
A little bit of kindness can go a long way. But sadly, it’s not as common these days to see small acts of kindness in our everyday lives.
These days, it’s often shocking to see a stranger holding the door for us or even an elevator. Many people do not offer such polite gestures, but this was not the case between these two strangers.
A Kind Gesture Between Strangers
A young lady has gone viral for the small amount of help she rendered to an older woman and how the outcome changed both their lives.
Brooke Ochoa, a 30-year-old woman from Louise, Texas, has been applauded for holding the door and waiting on an old lady approaching the same restaurant she was entering. She shared this story after hearing the woman’s remark.
Good Samaritans Are Hard To Find
It’s surprising to find fewer people who are polite and sympathetic toward older people; this can be attributed to many factors.
Many people are in so much of a hurry that they lose sight of people around them who may require a hand, while others tend to be cautious of rendering help.
Good Manners
Brooke made waves in 2015 for her politeness and good manners. She shared her story because she found it strange that fewer people offered kindness to strangers in this day and age.
This was not something she was used to. She shared how her kindness saved a stranger from the dark hole of loneliness. This would not have been possible if she had not been polite to someone she felt needed some help.
The Woman Who Needed A Bit Of Help
Brooke was on her way to a restaurant when she saw an older woman walking toward the same restaurant to get a bite to eat.
The older woman moved slowly due to her age and possibly poor health status. As Brooke walked through the door, she held the door open and waited for the woman to slowly make her way into the restaurant.
Southern Hospitality Style
This may seem like what anyone would have done, but in reality, many people would have missed the sight of the woman or avoided a situation that may have seemed awkward to them.
Brooke was not one of such people; she was raised as a kind southern lady with a graceful sense of hospitality, and her little act of kindness was about to be rewarding for the both of them.
Another Act Of Kindness
As the older woman entered the restaurant and settled in, Brooke, who was by herself and was not expecting company, noticed that the stranger was also by herself.
Brooke hesitantly expressed intent to dine with the elderly lady and keep her company if she would be okay with it. The elderly lady was immediately excited and wanted Brooke to dine with her.
Dolores Opens Up To Brooke
After Brooke and the woman sat down together, she found out that the stranger’s name was Dolores. As they chatted, Dolores shared her living situation with Brooke.
Dolores had been battling loneliness since her mother’s passing. She lived with her mother for decades, and getting used to life without her had been difficult. She had also had a hard time adjusting to living alone.
Dolores Showed Gratitude To Brooke
Dolores also mentioned that she was recently put into a nursing home. She had no one as a companion and struggled with loneliness.
Dolores was very grateful to Brooke, who kept her company and listened while she shared her sorrows. It had not been what Brooke had expected when she decided to keep Dolores company while they grabbed something to eat.
A Beautiful Moment In The Life Of Two Strangers
The exchange between Brooke and Dolores was also quite beautiful for Brooke. Dolores’s words were healing for her.
Dolores kept saying “thank you” to Brooke, who smiled and continued to listen to her new friend go on about her sad situation. According to Brooke, Dolores’ words healed her heart more than she imagined.
A Bittersweet Ending
Brooke and Dolores decided to meet at the same restaurant every Thursday to grab lunch and catch up. In a later post, Brooke broke the sad news confirming the death of Dolores.
This story is far from a sad ending. Brooke was able to keep Dolores from the pain of loneliness, and Dolores found a friend in a stranger who showed kindness to her.
